Milwaukee, WI – March 12, 2025—Brady Street Business Improvement District (BID 11) and docUWM are thrilled to announce a celebratory gathering for the release of “Brady Street: A Portrait of a Neighborhood,” a compelling documentary that explores the rich tapestry of Brady Street’s history. Directed by Sean Kafer, the program director of docUWM, this documentary is the culmination of over three years of dedicated work by students in docUWM’s film program.
Join us for an unforgettable evening filled with film, conversation, and celebration on Monday, March 24, from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM at the Vivarium, located at 1818 N. Farwell Ave. This event is open to the public, and attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy cocktails with the talented filmmakers and featured interviewees, view exclusive clips, receive insights into the documentary-making process, and taste delicious food from various Brady Street establishments. Get your chance to purchase a movie poster prior to the release.
Produced by docUWM, Brady Street BID, and Michael Sander, “Brady Street: A Portrait of a Neighborhood” takes viewers on a chronological journey through the history of Brady Street, divided into chapters that reflect the broader narrative of America’s immigrant experience. From pre-European settlement to modern-day, the documentary showcases the resilience, passion, and determination that define this unique neighborhood.
A panel discussion will take place providing insights into the creation of the film and the stories that inspired it. The documentary has already been submitted to the Milwaukee Film Festival and will be submitted to other national film festivals.
Michael Sander, Executive Director of the Brady Street BID, expressed his enthusiasm for the project: “This documentary is not just a reflection of Brady Street; it is a testament to the spirit of community and diversity that has shaped our historic neighborhood. We invite everyone to join us in celebrating the stories that make Brady Street a vibrant part of Milwaukee’s identity.”
