New Development: Hotel on Farwell and Brady

The news finally came out that Jeno Cataldo, owner of Dorsia and St. Bibiana, is looking at developing the former FedEx/Kinko’s location to a 11-story hotel. Opinions from the public have been mostly positive, but some people are not feeling it yet. There will rarely, if ever, be collective agreement about a major development, and that’s okay. If we all agreed on everything life wouldn’t be very interesting.

Jeno and his development partners will be holding an in-person gathering on Monday, January 23 at 6 PM at Dorsia for BID business owners, residents, and general public to see the architect’s renderings and discuss the project. Bring your questions and an open mind. Alderman Brostoff will also be in attendance.

Check out articles about this development by Milwaukee Record and OnMilwaukee for more information.

Sweet Joy Brazilian Cafe Opening Tuesday 1/17

And we couldn’t be more excited!!

Marcia Joy, owner of Sweet Joy Brazilian Cafe, is excited to finally open the cafe doors on Tuesday, January 17th at 7 AM. Please welcome Marcia to the neighborhood and check out her delicious Brazilian-inspired savories and sweets, as well as myriad coffee drinks.

Marcia was born and raised in Brazil before moving to Germany and living there for 13 years. Her son attended Tamarack-Waldorf School, and she has a deep appreciation for the Brady neighborhood. Her online business has done so well that it was a logical next step to open a brick and mortar cafe, and we’re very glad she choose Brady St!

Sweet Joy’s hours will be:

  • Tuesday through Friday, 7 AM to 3 PM
  • Saturday and Sunday, 8 AM to 3 PM
  • Closed Monday

Marcia gave a sneak peek of Sweet Joy’s revitalized interior on FB – check it out here and be sure to follow Sweet Joy for more updates!

MJ’s Apothecary & Gifts: Opening in February

Urban Milwaukee wrote an exceptional article about Mary LaVanway’s new gift shop opening in the Brady BID, MJ’s Apothecary & Gifts.

After multiple attempts to develop this space, we’re very excited that Mary has a strong plan to bring a different type of retail to the area. Focusing on WI-based businesses and artisans, MJ’s Apothecary & Gifts will delight and surprise visitors, and is anticipated to be a very popular business.

The BID will be working with Mary to sell Brady St Festival merchandise at the shop.
